Southport

For our last Saturday of the holidays, we decided we had to have a day out and where better to go than Southport with our best buddy, Rob!

Our first stop was Lords cafe for a coffee and a toasted teacake, because shops can’t be tackled without a coffee in our system.

We then hit a few charity shops and all bought a book or 2 each. I was particularly pleased because I found some Fontana Agatha Christie books and a small book on Gaudi which I’ve been after for ages!!

Lunchtime was soon upon us and it had to be fish and chips! We went to Jackson’s, which is close to Funland, and all opted for the haddock, chips, mushy peas, bread and butter and a drink for £7.70 each. It was extremely tasty and enjoyed by all (Rob’s tea was very weak though).

We now had to walk off the food so went for a walk down Southport Pier. The weather wasn’t brilliant and it did feel a bit like we were walking into the unknown, but we didn’t let that stop us!

It ended up being a really enjoyable walk (despite not being able to see much) and we were rewarded by the arcade being open at the end! Also, Rob managed to capture this picture of me and Paul laughing which was lovely ?

The arcade isn’t a normal arcade as the machines only work by using old pennies. You can get 10 for a pound which is good value for a little bit of fun. Rob and myself enjoyed the horses whilst Paul got into the coin pushers.

We all then hit the slot machines. Pulling the levers makes these so much fun and brought back lots of memories of being a child and going to the arcades with my family. My Grandad loved these machines. ❤️

Time for a coffee now and we went to a cafe called, A Great Little Place. This cafe is wonderful as it’s main purpose is to offer people with autism the opportunity to train and work. Not only is this cafe a wonderful social enterprise, it provides fantastic coffee and totally delicious homemade cakes. I had the chocolate orange, Paul had the almond and forest fruits and Rob had the raspberry and white chocolate. The slices were huge and well worth the money. £4.75 each for a coffee and a delicious cake.

Another little wander round the shops and we came across a really good record shop called Quicksilver Music. They had a good selection of vinyls and seemed quite reasonably priced.

Home time now and we had all walked a fair bit so were looking forward to chilling out for the evening.

We love Southport and feel you can’t beat the charity shops and bookshops. In addition, you can easily get your hands on good food and coffee so what more can we ask for from a day trip. ?
