SIEM REAP
The Khmer Grill – Cheap and cheerful place with wonderful staff. They are so friendly and funny!! Here we had a chilli chicken stir fry and a Cambodian chicken curry soup style dish. Both really good!
Spoons – This place was going more for the fine dining title and it was for a really good cause. It offers training to EGBOK (Everything’s Going to Be OK) students. EGBOK provide training for underserved Cambodian young adults to help them become hospitality leaders. They have a 100% rate of employment after graduation. How lovely!! Anyway, every member of the team was extremely kind and hard working and we loved our meal here. We can’t remember what the amuse bouche was but it tasted good. The spring rolls and beef skewers were great and the mains were their own spin on fish amok and a prawn curry. Interesting! Definitely worth a visit here and all for an excellent cause!
Molop wat Damnak Restaurant – This was probably our favourite place to eat in Siem Reap. Excellent fish amok and Cambodian chicken curry. All the ingredients were really fresh!!
PHNOM PENH
Phnom Penh is quite westernised. The area that we stayed in was anyway but the food was fantastic!!!
Trattoria Bello – We came to this Italian twice as it was really good and the staff were amazing! When you walk in, one member shouts the number of your party then all members of staff shout something along the lines of, “2 people! Welcome!” How lovely! The pizzas are all handmade so service is slow (doesn’t bother us at all though) and the homemade tiramisu is delicious!!
Eleven One Kitchen – We also loved it here. This had a few more traditional dishes on the menu but some with a little twist. The Cambodian Soup and Fish with salsa were amazing, as was the stir fried pork with baked baby potatoes. We even had a chocolate mousse and an espresso martini here. Amazing! Again, the staff were wonderful.
Dos Besos – This Mexican was always busy, especially at lunchtimes. We both got a burrito for lunch and could definitely see the appeal!
