Driving along the Big Sur coast played a big part in our decision to come to California so we can’t lie and say we weren’t a tad disappointed when we realised a chunk of it was closed due to a landslide. But we can’t argue with Mother Nature so we had to make other plans. Luckily for us, our AirBnb host, Robert, told us we were fine to go about 26 miles along and that it was his favourite part anyway! So we took his advice and all I can say is WOW! It is the most mesmerising and enchanting road I’ve ever driven along and any photos that we’ve taken just don’t do it justice. There are loads of places to pull over and take it all in so I can imagine driving the whole length taking a long time because you just can’t help yourself as each corner you turn just brings another spectacular view! Driving along Big Sur was an absolute dream come true!!

Hey guys, fantastic photos, you need to get yourself the book called Big Sur by my fav beat writer and poet Jack Kerouac. Great read. I take it you have hired a car? Hey! We’ve listened to at least six Beach Boys albums so far – the perfect soundtrack for the drive! I was planning on reading On The Road at some point during the trip, but I haven’t got a copy of Big Sur. I read Dharma Bums a few years ago and loved it – told Nicola if she stands on her head everyday she’ll never catch a cold, but she’s having none of it. We went to the City Lights bookshop in San Fran as well, which was by the side of Jack Kerouac alley. Cool place!
I was reading an article about that landslide the other day and it had that exact picture of the bridge!…though I was at the whisky festival last night so I may well have read this last night too:S Sure it was in the Guardian, I’ll post a link if I ever find it.
