We knew we were going to love Krabi when we arrived and we saw a small (Pokémon) Krabby stood on the light switch in our guesthouse.
Krabi Town is a market town and has markets on all the time. It’s most popular one is the weekend night market where tourists and locals flock to get their share of Thai street food, clothes, souvenirs and entertainment. There are local bands/solo artists on stage, as well as children playing percussion instruments to raise money for scholarships. We tried SOOOOO much food and have put pictures on the food and drink page if you want a nosey. It was brilliant and we loved it all and the prices are crazy!! Most food items cost a maximum of 50p and the clothes are about £1 to £2 so you could change your whole wardrobe for a few quid!! The people of Thailand certainly know what they’re doing when it comes to street food and markets. We had one day where something we ate did not agree with us and it was from a restaurant which is number one on TripAdvisor!! Unbelievable! The markets are clearly the place to go. Thank god for decent internet and Season 2 of Stranger Things though!!!
In Krabi Town, you can relax away and spend your time strolling round the markets, chilling out in the park/by the river, or sailing on one of the many boat trips on offer. The Mud Crab and other various sculptures on the waterfront are must sees as well as the local Buddhist Temple (which isn’t a trek to get to). We used our time in Krabi to relax and slow down a bit (apart from hiking up 1237 steps one morning) and couldn’t think of a nicer place to do so. People are really lovely and friendly (as long as you have your wits about you when you’re haggling for a boat) and it’s just a laid back place to go. If you like art, the Andaman Art Museum is definitely worth a visit and has a lot of work on display by local artists which is always good to see. There is also a bead museum and who knew beads were so interesting?! We actually spent about half an hour here and really enjoyed it!! Not only that, it’s good shelter from the sweltering heat or the heavy downpours.
All in all, we really enjoyed Krabi Town and it gave us the rest that we needed. Chiang Mai is our next stop where the pace will be picked up again as there are lots of things to see and do there!
Take care xxx
