Hue

Before I begin, Hue is pronounced Hway. We embarrassed ourselves a few times before somebody kindly corrected us 😀

We had a few days in the old capital of Vietnam and we weren’t really sure what to expect. It was a bit rainy and noticeably colder but we enjoyed our time here.

On our way, we visited the Marble Mountains where we spent a couple of hours walking around caves and temples then drove over the Hai Văn Pass to see some great views even though it wasn’t the clearest of days!

As with a lot of Vietnam, there’s plenty of construction and roadworks going on but it’s actually a pretty chilled out place. Far less touristy than Hoi An (but Hoi An is so beautiful it’s no wonder) and there is an abundance of places to eat and drink.

Whilst in Hue, there are a number of day trips you can do so we opted for the City tour and a food tour. The city tour takes you to 3 tombs of past kings, The Imperial City, a Pagoda then finishes with a boat ride along The Perfume River. It’s a jam packed day which is good because you never get bored and the buildings are mega impressive! The Imperial City being my personal favourite.

The food tour that we did was with a personal guide called Kim. She’s basically a massive foodie and just loves to share the cuisine of Hue with other people. We went to 7 restaurants (I think) and ate all of the local specialties. It was especially good because she knew where to get the best of each dish from so took us to places off the beaten track where we would never have gone. I’ve made an album of all the food we sampled for ease so you can have a look through. We found the specialities in Hue to be much punchier than in the other parts of Vietnam we’ve visited so far. As well as the fresh tasting dumplings, a lot of the flavours are all quite bold and spicy – right up our street.

There are a few museums to visit in Hue and the Le Ba Dang Art Museum is definitely worth checking out. Truong Tien Bridge across The Perfume River was designed byGustave Eiffel and makes for a pleasant walk across as there’s a walking path with no scooters on it!!! Happy days!!

Overall, Hue has a fun, friendly feel to it and it’s definitely worth a visit to the former capital. Arrive hungry though as you will eat a lot and enjoy a drink of the local Huda Beer.

Our next stop is Hanoi (the capital city) which is where we’ll be spending Christmas!

?❤️?? Ho Ho Ho and Merry Christmas everybody ?❤️??
