So, the 2nd day started off brilliantly with a lovely (included) breakfast! See pics and I’m sure you’ve read Paul’s post to see what happened with it ?
As planned, we headed off to the Guinness storehouse. Both excited but not really knowing what to expect. Anyway, it was brilliant! At €20 a pop, it may seem a bit pricey but we were there for about 3 hours, learned lots about Guinness and had complimentary drinks in the Galaxy Bar which has beautiful views of the city. My favourite part of the tour was learning about Arthur Guinness himself. He was obviously very confident in his plan as he took out a 9000 year lease on the brewery. I wonder if there’ll be any problems renewing it when it runs out?!
After that, we had a nice wander to Dublin Castle and State Apartments. The architecture was lovely as always.
We then decided to go to a cocktail bar called Chelsea Drugstore. I had an Aviation cocktail and Paul had a Tokyo Nights cocktail. Both fully enjoyed by each of us! We then hit a coffee shop called Kaph which did a very fruity tasting espresso.
Our next stop was a shop called ‘The Rage’ which sold vinyls and retro games. Always a pleasure to see my favourite game boy game, Mario Picross, in a shop and it goes without saying that Paul was in his element. No 10CC vinyls though. Darn!
We hit a couple of pubs then and had half a Guinness in each. We went to Grogan’s and Kehoes and loved both. Both had a lot of character and charm and lovely staff. Would definitely recommend them.
Now time to eat and we both fancied Japanese food so went to a small restaurant called Banyi. We had edamame beans, gyoza and a sushi and sashimi selection. All gorgeous and had halibut sashimi for the first time. Delicious!
Our final stop of the day was a speakeasy cocktail bar called Vintage Cocktail Club. We had to ring a bell and wait for somebody to let us in, which is always a worry in case you’ve knocked on the wrong door, haha! Luckily, we hadn’t though and was lead upstairs to a cosy room and more friendly staff. I opted for their twist on a martini and Paul had a cocktail called, Banshee. Both were well made and very tasty!
Day Two Verdict: Love the city and if you are lucky enough to visit, go to the Guinness storehouse! Well worth it and you will have a load of knowledge just waiting to be used in a pub quiz!
