We’ve had a busy few days and a blast in Los Angeles! We’re taking a few minutes to write before we explore the birthplace of the Beach Boys, Hawthorne, then we fly out tonight at 10:30pm (Saturday), arriving in New Zealand at 2:30pm (Monday!).
For the first day in LA we took the complimentary bikes from our accommodation in Del Rey down to Playa Del Rey Beach, following a tranquil cycling path by the side of Ballona Creek. I haven’t been on a bike for around 10 years but it was awesome when we got into the swing of it! Nicola had a basket on the front of hers, but she filled it with her backpack instead of a baguette because we always carry loads of stuff.
Once we got to the beach we stopped to get wet, then doubled back on ourselves down the Marvin Braude Bike Trail, cycling through a small portion of the city to arrive at Venice Beach, its pier and the Wells-Benali-approved holiday hotspot, Venice Whaler. There’s another amazing cycle track along the beach towards Venice Skate Park, where we watched the skaters grind rails and somersault on half pipes. We didn’t catch sight of any pecs or guns at all at Muscle Beach, but we did spot Russel Muscle and his beefcake wife on Santa Monica Pier the day before, so that was enough people watching for us.
We finished the day with a bowl of steaming Ramen and a thimble-full of Sake, then rested our calves.
You’ve certainly made the most of your time in LA! Love all the pics. Safe journey to New Zealand. Love to you both ?X
