2 Days in San Francisco

We’ve had 2 whole days in San Francisco and have filled them to the brim! We’ve been to the beach, Golden Gate Park, walked across the Golden Gate Bridge (and back again), had a ride on the cable car, been on a magic bus and visited Alcatraz (and escaped).

We’ve walked for miles and miles so have seen a lot more than I’ve mentioned but they were the major highlights.

Golden Gate Bridge did not disappoint and when we finally saw it, we were mega happy!! It was covered in mist so genuinely could not see it at all apart from the bit we were walking on. 1.7 miles later though, it had cleared tons and we could finally see it in all its glory! A must do if you ever visit.

The next thing I’ll mention is the cable car. San Francisco is crazily steep in parts and the inspiration for the cable cars came from an unfortunate accident in 1873 when 5 horses were killed because they were unable to walk up the steep hill and pull their heavy loads due to the rain causing very slippy tracks. How sad 🙁 anyway, on a happier note, they have served their purpose well and are very popular. At $7 a ride, they aren’t the cheapest mode of transport but definitely worth a ride.

I’m sure you’re all wondering what the magic bus is? Well, it’s a bus that is painted in colourful flowers which takes you on a tour of San Francisco and takes you back to the Summer of Love in 1967. We ended up on it so we could get tickets for Alcatraz but it was a pleasant surprise as we really enjoyed it and even got flowers in our hair. For any fan of the 60s, we’d recommend it as the music alone is brill and the video footage from the 60s is awesome.

Finally, Alcatraz. What a place. Really hard to explain and describe it but you must go if you ever visit. The boat ride to Alcatraz was amazing and seeing the island get closer gave me goosebumps! The audio guide is brill and takes you on a really detailed tour of the cell house where you learn a lot about prison life and the inmates, as well as the attempted escapes!

All in all, San Francisco is a great city to visit and we’ve encountered a lot of friendly people. If you are lucky enough to visit, don’t forget to wear your flower in your hair ??

Ps. There’s now an album of a few phone pics on the albums page if you fancy a look ?
