It’s been like forever since I’ve last written on here so I thought it was about time to start up again!
Bank holiday weekend was upon us and, as usual, the sun was forecast to disappear and rain was due. So, where to go? After much debating, (and yes you’ve guessed it after reading the title) we opted for Skipton.
As soon as we arrived, the heavens opened but armed with our waterproofs, it didn’t bother us. Our first port of call was a cute little independent cafe called Helene’s Tea Rooms. We each got a filter coffee served in different floral cups and saucers and they hit the spot perfectly! Staff were also lovely and friendly ?
We then walked up to the castle and if you visit Skipton, this is a must. It is the best preserved castle that I’ve visited and is a whopping 900 years old! It was built by a Norman Baron and withstood a 3 year siege during the civil war. With walls 4 metres thick, you can certainly see why! Entry was just over £8 and you got a free guided tour sheet which you could follow and not miss anything. Bonus!
After the castle, we did the castle woodland walk and this was also well worth it. It doesn’t take too long and it’s very pretty with some impressive views of beautiful countryside.
Now it was time to eat as we’d worked up quite the appetite. We visited The Skipton Pie and Mash Shop and it was perfect! They serve your meal out of metal containers at the counter and it does slightly remind you of a school dinner set up! I got the homity pie, mash, peas and gravy and Paul got the same but with a chicken and mushroom pie instead. Here’s the link if you want to take a look but trust us, it’s every pie lovers dream! http://skiptonpieandmash.co.uk/
It was now time to walk off the pie and have a look round a few charity shops and visit The Sound Bar. The Sound Bar is a cool little bar which also sells vinyls. I managed to pick up L.A by The Beach Boys so was very pleased! http://www.skiptonsoundbar.co.uk/
Overall Verdict is that Skipton makes a lovely day out or you could even spend a weekend there and have an evening in the Sound Bar with good beers and music ? what more could you ask for?
Take care xxxx
Sounds like a really good day!! Must try it. Xx
Skipton looks great! Glad you enjoyed x
